You read that right: We’ve started a podcast.
An idea that spawned from a collection of conversations Jack and I had while watching companies pay for the same type of advertisements and missing the mark connecting to the millennial generation. It became so annoying between YouTube videos that we decided to do something about it.
The title “Skip Ad” is the beautiful button you see appear in the bottom right hand corner of your video, allowing you to stop the atrocity on your screen and proceed to your intended content. We felt this was an appropriate name for a podcast that the hosts share your frustration.
This Podcast isn’t going to be attacking the brands, but the ad itself; critiquing structure and story (or lack thereof) using literary, practical, and personal...more
Yesterday Jack and I went out for a chilly morning of bird watching at Montrose Beach. With the wind blustering and the waves churning, we unloaded the camera to try and capture a bird (most likely a seagull) on film for our upcoming piece for the IWPA.
It was so cold that I was tearing up the whole time. With a little luck and a frozen eyeball, I was able to get the shot you see in the picture and can be seen in the video below.
After, we walked through the bird sanctuary and picked out some spots for the rest of the shoot. Though it was cold, it was an absolute beautiful day at a beautiful location. It reiterates why it’s important to go out and do location scouting before coming to shoot. Sounds like a no brainer, but sometimes you feel like you know where it is...more
NPR had a great article outlining the new wave of companies getting in on streaming original series and content online. This is the future of television. Fantastic opportunities if you have the money for it, like Amazon, but it is also an opportunity for businesses and online advertising. With the internet as a medium, why can't you create original content for your business?
The answer is you can and you should start. My first blog post was about Millennials and their need for CSI: Community, Story, Identity. Original content is a great way to combine all three of these in a captivating way. These videos wouldn't directly pitch a product or service, so get that out of your head. It would be a character representation of your company, a product or service. Much like a Netflix...more
Whenever I receive SALE! emails or see an annual seasonal SALE! being offered by a company, my first thought is that they are trying to incentivize customers to give them a try and develop brand loyalty. My second thought is how that doesn’t work like they think, especially when talking about Millennials. Millennial’s brand loyalty isn’t created by offering significant discounts, but by revolving your brand around stories that connect to their identity.
Taking what we already know about Millennials (3 Things to Know about Millennials)it is an easy to see that we won’t buy from you because of sales, but because you add to their story and identity. Thus, the...more
Millennials; the generation no one understands. It is a daunting task trying to connect with a group of people that seem to be oblivious to the world; with their heads buried in feeds, pictures, and videos. Where do you even begin to understand this elusive generation? You actually need help from CSI: Community, Story, and Identity.
Millennials are mistakenly called the ‘me’ generation when in fact we are the ‘we’ generation. This is a generation that grew up with a major tech advancement that forced them to be more open about ourselves, publicly to connect with our peers. Millennials care about each other regardless of background, forming a community looking to find ways to connect and help each...more
